The dark forest crushed her from all sides and made Anita's heartbeat race while all around her remained quiet. The power the human left remained in the air as an unmovable burden for Anita and Jace. 


He clung tightly to the fox bead around his neck as he leaned next to Anita looking weak from his recent activities. Its intense light weakened and flared briefly before fading away. Shadow of the cloaked figure made Anita's chest tighten as though she handled an unpredictable electrical threat. 


The words of their mysterious enemy echoed in her mind: “The bead is unraveling, and so are you.” 


Anita held her fists tightly while her fingernails left marks in her palms. The bead connected to every cell of his being as it formed Jace's core essence. The meaning of the unraveling bead would show how it affects him. 


The key question was how this unstable bead affected both of them.
