The mountain temple interior carried a blend of ancient incense fragrance together with smoking pine trees. The flame-lit candles illuminated the stone walls and cast moving shadows which resembled phantoms from the past. The fox bead glowed dimly in Jace's hand as he remained in the middle of the space like a fading cosmic object. It used to be brighter. Warmer. His curse had transformed from something he believed he could break into a permanent state that extracted his life essence slowly away.
"So, you came," Lyra said, stepping out from the shadows like she belonged there—like she always had. Her movements resembled those of someone who defied all signs of aging as she passed through the gloomy lighting with her silver hair alight and intense sharp eyes.
