Next Day, coincidently Lucas came to his house with his assistant for some business when he saw his family was getting ready to go somewhere and what astonished him was that his Grandpa was checking each and everything personally
"Are the gifts ready? Make sure the wine is topnotch!"
Everybody knows that James Maxwell doesn't bother about giving any importance to anyone, as the elder of one of the leading families, it's others who go to them unless it's…
He has a name in his heart
"You, at this time?" Grace's voice broke his trance, who was shocked to see her son at such an odd time.
"Forgot a file."
James didn't even turn to acknowledge his grandson's presence and continued to talk to Peter "Are you sure you are not coming? She invited you as well."
Peter politely refused "I have some work to do, I'll tell her to cook for me some other day."
"Humph…Your loss!" James humphed while Peter hide his smile
Finally, Lucas asked the question whose answer he already knows: "You all are going somewhere?"
Nobody answered his question and acted busy in their work but Lucas didn't budge or felt any embarrassment, he continued to look at them like demanding an answer.
Seeing everyone in a stalemate, Peter decided to step in "Young Mistress…" He paused, then corrected "I mean Young Miss invited everyone for lunch."
"Crystal?" Young miss seems to foreign from Peter's mouth that Lucas couldn't help but ask as a confirmation to which Peter nodded
Grandpa James interrupted their conversation "Let's go, we're getting late and you don't need to tell him everything." He reprimanded Peter
Peter mumbled under his breath "Then why didn't you stop me before, of course you also wanted me to tell him."
As the trio was about to leave, Lucas stopped them "Wait, I'll join you all. Give me some minutes to change."
He decided to go as he wanted to find the change in Crystal's behavior, he didn't know why this sudden change in Crystal was bothering him very much.
"Don't you have a meeting?" Ron asked
"Postponed!" Lucas lied without a blink making Ben turned to his boss in a shock
"Really?" Ron looked at Ben with a scrutinizing gaze as a confirmation while Lucas was looking at him with those same cold eyes in which the warning was clear.
Ben gulped invisibly as felt like a trapped deer who was stared by a leopard and wolf and whose one wrong step will make him lose his life.
After a while, he decided to show loyalty to his current boss who was more terrifying than anyone. "Yes, yes sir. Actually, it was me who wanted that file as there are some points which I wanted to work on."
Lucas nodded his head "Come with me and take that file."
"Yes sir."
As he was going, his way was blocked by Grandpa James's cane stick, who reminded him "You shouldn't go there after whatever happened between you and her."
Lucas felt the same uneasiness that he used to feel years ago and retorted coldly "Breaking engagement was your best friend's decision not mine, so why should I hide?"
Saying this, he removed the cane and went to upstairs while Grandpa James shouted at his rushing figure
"You brat! It was you who forced her to take that decision."
Grace looked at his father-in-law worriedly with the turn of events as she knew that Lucas going to the Waynes house is not a good idea "Father, he…"
Grandpa James waved his hand as nothing "Let him be! He has forgotten that like Maxwells are famous for keeping their promises, the same way Waynes are famous for their heartlessness that if they decide to let go of someone then no one is more cold-hearted than them."
"I want him to see it himself." There was an evil smirk on his face.
