The awkward atmosphere lingered until dinner ended.

Nick Fury pulled on his leather trench coat and left the McCoy household. As soon as he opened the door, a gust of cold wind hit him, making him shiver involuntarily.

Turning back, he waved at the father and son who had come to see him off. "Goodbye. Stay in touch."

Charles and Erik nodded in response.

Charles hadn't intended to embarrass Nick Fury—he simply knew that Fury was trying to probe into their affairs. So, by shutting down the conversation outright, he made it clear that there was no room for discussion.

"Wait a second."

Mike called out to Nick Fury. With a casual flip of his hand, he pulled a box from his dimensional pocket and handed it over. "Here, take this."

Nick Fury accepted the box, the corners of his lips twitching briefly into a smile before he quickly masked it with his usual stern expression. "What the hell is this? I'm throwing it away as soon as I leave."

"Suit yourself," Mike replied indifferently, then turned and walked back into the house with Charles.

As soon as the three of them disappeared from view, Nick Fury's serious expression melted into a grin. He hurried into his car, eagerly unwrapped the box, and popped a piece into his mouth.

Crunch!

That familiar taste.

A satisfied expression spread across his face as he started the car and drove off.

Inside the house, Charles asked curiously, "Dad, what was in that box?"

"Teddy bear cookies."

"What?" Erik asked in disbelief. "Teddy bear cookies?"

Mike chuckled. "That guy loves them. But as the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he can't bring himself to buy them in public. So every time he visits, I send him off with a box."

Charles and Erik exchanged bewildered glances.

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Director? Teddy bear cookies?

Who would ever put those two things together?

Mike smiled as he headed upstairs, calling out, "By the way, we should start scouting locations for the school in the next couple of days."

Nick Fury…

After knowing him for so many years, Mike still saw him as the same guy who loved teasing cats, once claimed to be an expert at washing dishes just to score a free meal, and had a childish fondness for teddy bear cookies.

Maybe it was because Mike was strong enough that he never had to care about Fury's title as Director, which allowed them to maintain such a relaxed friendship for so long.

Hearing Mike's words, Charles and Erik nodded, though their minds were still reeling.

A top spy who secretly loves teddy bear cookies?

They shuddered.

*Terrifying.*

---

*Three days later, Staten Island, New York.*

"This is the place!"

Looking at the castle-like building before him, Mike's eyes gleamed with excitement.

He truly loved it—it resembled the X-Mansion from his memories.

The world had changed, Charles' life had taken a different path, but somehow, this place still seemed destined to be his.

The grand castle-like main building, the gardens behind it, the main road leading up to the entrance, the distant forest and lake, even the various sports facilities…

*It was perfect!*

Most importantly, it was huge.

Charles and Erik were equally impressed, but when they thought about the price, both let out a helpless sigh.

*Way too expensive.*

Even if they pooled their savings together, they couldn't afford even a fraction of the cost.

Dragging Mike aside, Charles hesitated before finally speaking. "Uh, Dad, Erik and I… we don't have that kind of money."

"Money?" Mike waved a hand dismissively. "Not a problem."

Erik's eyes lit up. "You're saying you'll let Charles use his powers to—"

Before Mike could respond, Charles frowned and said firmly, "I won't do it."

Mike looked at the two of them, straightened his posture, and, with the calm authority of a father, declared, "I told you, money is not a problem!"

The two exchanged skeptical glances. "Dad, do you even know how much this place costs?"

"It's just a little over a hundred million, isn't it?" Mike replied nonchalantly.

Charles and Erik stared at him in shock. Charles couldn't help but blurt out, "Dad, that's a hundred million, not a million!"

If it were just a million, he might have believed his father could afford it. But 1.3 billion? Even if Mike sold their farm and the villa in New York, it wouldn't even cover a fraction of that amount.

Mike simply flashed them a mysterious smile before waving over the real estate agent who had been showing them the property. "I'll take it."

The agent was momentarily surprised but maintained her professional demeanor.

Judging by the three men's attire, they didn't look like billionaires. But she had heard that some wealthy people had eccentric habits, so she just smiled and asked politely, "Sir, are you certain you want to purchase this estate?"

Mike nodded.

The agent smiled, though she was inwardly thrilled.

If this deal went through… her commission alone…

Suppressing her excitement, she asked, "Would you like some time to arrange financing?"

"No need."

Mike replied coolly, pulling a bank card from his pocket and handing it over.

The agent took the card and said, "Please follow me."

Seeing this, Charles and Erik quickly pulled Mike aside.

"Dad, stop messing around. Erik and I know exactly what our financial situation is."

Erik nodded in agreement, looking at Mike with concern.

People always say that the elderly become like children as they age. He had prepared himself for that possibility, but this…

This wasn't just childish behavior!

Wait a minute… Parkinson's?

A sudden chill ran down Erik's spine as he looked at Mike, his expression shifting to one of pain, conflict, and sorrow.

Mike had just been about to explain when Erik's expression caught his attention. He turned to look at him, his mouth twitching.

What the hell is that look?

What exactly are you imagining right now?

"Sir?"

The agent called out to Mike.

Mike gave up on explaining and strode forward.

Let the facts speak for themselves.

Half an hour later, Charles, still in a daze, signed his name on the property contract, his mind blank.

What just happened?

How did we end up buying it?

Wait… did I actually sign my name on this thing?

He turned to look at Erik, who was equally stunned and overwhelmed. Then, noticing the agent discreetly slipping a piece of paper into Mike's hand, Charles' heart clenched.

Oh no…

This woman—who isn't even that attractive and looks about my age—wants to be my mom?!

Charles cleared his throat and said, "Alright, you can leave now."

"Sir, it was a pleasure doing business with you!"

The agent shook Mike's hand and then, to Charles' horror, gave him a flirtatious wink.

This man isn't just rich—he's even richer than I thought.

Mike waved casually. "Goodbye."

The agent playfully squeezed Mike's hand, lightly tracing her fingers over his palm before finally turning to leave—much to the speechless dismay of Charles and Erik.
