Anxiety and Reflection

The evening had settled.

Rachel sat on her bed, hugging her knees. Whenever she was troubled, she would bite her right thumb, which was now nearly broken from her anxious gnawing.

The pain snapped her back to reality, and she sighed, resting her head against the headboard. Whether or not she felt mature enough, she knew that the decision she'd made today was right.

It was almost laughable—despite all his precautions and carefulness, she still ended up pregnant. Turning her gaze to the starless sky outside the window, she couldn't help but smile wryly.

If Kingsly found out she was pregnant, would he be so furious he'd see red? Given his nature, he might just drag her to get sterilized... just as decisively as when he took her for the IUD procedure. Her heart unexpectedly ached.
