Yin Kai continued down the alleyway that led towards the library.
Eating an apple somewhat obnoxiously, his gaze slid into noncomformity as the early morning light began to light up the small crystals hedging in on the stone walkway…
"Yin Kai! You really think it's a good day, don't you?" A shout from behind caused his swagger to stop.
The voice continued. "You sure got me good back then. Now that you've advanced, it's time to beat your hairy ass!"
A small crowd began to form. "Is this a challenge, Gu Ding?" Yin Kai narrowed his eyes and shouted back.
The would-be challenger, Gu Ding, shrunk back at the malice directed towards him. Just as quickly, he raised his voice once more.
"Who's scared of you, dumbass?! Let's wait for the supervisor and then I'll kick your fucking ass!"
"I never heard you were scared..." Thus came the calm reply.
The crowd forming around them continued to grow.
"What's going on here?" A young outer disciple from the body transformation 8th stage asked his senior.
The older boy replied, "Gu Ding proposed a challenge to Yin Kai. It's funny, actually. Yin Kai was stuck in the Body Transformation stage until recently."
The storytelling inner disciple continued. "Last time they fought, Yin Kai had challenged everyone from the pre-Body Transformation stage to the 3rd Body Transformation stage within a day. Due to several 'underhanded methods' he managed to finish his winning streak without losing a single fight."
"After completing his sect mission, Brother Gu Ding came back and saw his beloved, Senior Sister Mo Mei, clinging to her bed with blood on her lips. At the time he was on the verge of reaching the Body Transformation 4th stage."
"In a fit of rage, he challenged Yin Kai to a fight. Once accepting, Yin Kai managed to poke his eyes, chop his neck, damage his liver, kick him in the gonads and knock him out."
"After he lost consciousness, Yin Kai proceeded to slap Gu Ding's bottom over his knee seven times in an act before 'noticing' his loss of consciousness."
"Afterwards, Gu Ding was placed in the sect infirmary. He was covered in bruises. He swore to exact his revenge. Unfortunately for him, the healing pills he took raised him to the Body Formation 4th stage. From that point on, according to the sect rules, he was no longer able to challenge Yin Kai."
"So, what happened?" The young disciple piped in.
"I was getting to that. Yin Kai heard that he was bummed and spouting nonsense, so he decided to challenge him anyways. He had to apply to the sect to let them allow it."
"How'd that one go?"
"Worse. Gu Ding was left in the infirmary for 9 months. When he finally healed, he had no desire to challenge anyone else. He slowly cultivated to the Qi Opening realm and prepared his revenge."
The young disciple's eyes were nearly open as wide as his mouth. When he once again spoke, the fight had nearly started. His mouth uttered a single word. "Dayumn."
The challenge supervisor had already arrived. Running along the roofs of the sect buildings, the challenge supervisors would assure that nobody broke the rules.
After assuming a fighting stance, Gu Ding shouted. "I have studied all of your moves! I know your ways. You shall not defeat me! I will be your downfall!"
Yin Kai motioned with his hand. "Enough talk. Let's fight."
Gu Ding ran towards him with one of Yin Kai's signature moves- a flying sidekick. At the last moment, Yin Kai stepped to the side and struck a knifehand chop to his throat.
Gu Ding fell to the ground. Grasping at straws, he tried to roll over and pick himself up. Yin Kai stepped between his shoulder blades. "Submit."
"Never!" The man choked.
"Sect Supervisor?" Yin Kai asked.
The on-duty this time was a senior disciple known as brother Long Lei. Long Lei was fairly practical. "This challenge has been completed. Inner Disciple, Qi Opening 1st stage Yin Kai has defeated Inner Disciple, Qi Opening 3rd stage Gu Ding. Due to loss of breath, Disciple Gu Ding is declared unable to continue."
Yin Kai bowed and cupped his hands. "Thanks to the Sect supervisor." Releasing Gu Ding, he parted his way through the crowd and continued towards the library.
Far off, a certain senior sister glanced in his general direction. "So, he finally made it, huh?"
