Andrew Locke furrowed his brows, seemingly displeased: "Miss Vaughn, is there something you need?"

"Just five minutes, I won't take up too much of your time."

"Go ahead."

"Can we move to a different place?"

Andrew Locke did not budge at Lila Vaughn's request, as if allowing her to speak was already an enormous favor, yet she dared to make another demand?

The surrounding guests, noticing the tension, tactfully dispersed. After all, this was the Vaughn Residence, and while Lila Vaughn's status wasn't much, Clara Vaughn's standing warranted respect.

The crowd scattered, leaving only Andrew Locke and Lila Vaughn. The man lowered his gaze to look at her, his eyes devoid of any emotion, as though this woman wasn't worth even the slightest ripple of feeling.

"Mr. Locke, why would you choose to humiliate me in front of so many people?"

"I admit, compared to you, I'm nothing. But does that mean that, because I'm nothing, I don't even deserve basic respect?"
