The atmosphere in the dining room was already tense, and when Christopher spoke up, his expression and movements froze.

Amelia withdrew her gaze and lowered her head to continue eating, but the food had lost its flavor.

A suffocating silence fell for a few seconds before the man finally broke it to offer an explanation.

"Having someone follow you wasn't meant maliciously. I was worried that if my family found out about your existence, they'd trouble you again. Given your personality, even if they mistreated you and you felt aggrieved, you wouldn't tell me."
