Christopher looked at her throwing a flirtatious glance, but instead of acknowledging it, he deliberately exposed her: "Don't try to use a beauty trick on me, it's useless! Going behind my back sounds like cheating, not cool!"
"What else can I do? Seeing you get scolded all the time, it pains me too."
What she thought was, if Emma Carter's illness couldn't be cured, it might only be about a year left.
They could afford to "endure".
After all, she never really wanted that marriage certificate; as long as Christopher was wholeheartedly devoted to her, she didn't care about outsiders' opinions or any formal constraints.
