Watching Edward Harper take shallow breaths, Clara Knox felt a hint of amusement.
Having spent three years together day and night, Clara knew every one of his expressions like the back of her hand. He appeared nonchalant, but Clara knew he was nervous.
In just a few short minutes, he had touched the tip of his nose three times. He only did this when he felt unsettled inside.
Clara glanced at her watch again; the time was exactly 11:45, and the airport broadcast began to play. Clara looked up and asked,
"Lucas should be coming out soon, have you thought about what you want to say to her?"
She asked this, but even she had her own reservations. She hadn't mentioned to the child in advance that her father would be picking her up from the airport, and she didn't know whether Lucas would be repelled or pleased.
