Clara Knox tactfully declined Nicholas Sutton's dinner invitation, packed her things, and went downstairs early to wait with her bag.
She could no longer sit still in the office.
Edward Harper's Bentley pulled up and stopped right in front of Clara. Clara ignored Edward and opened the rear door directly to check on the children.
Seeing that Max Knox and Lucas Knox were in good spirits made her heart settle down.
Instead of sitting in the front passenger seat, Clara went straight into the back seat.
Upon seeing his lifeline, Max no longer cared about maintaining his macho image. He scooted over, cuddling up to Clara, his dramatic flair reemerging.
"Mommy~"
Clara's expression stagnated momentarily; she knew her own child best. Max wasn't usually like this - clinging to her arm and not letting go signaled he'd been treated unfairly.
The anger that had just subsided began to flare up again,
"Edward Harper, did you hit my son?"
