Clara Knox came downstairs with Lucas one hour later.

The father and son duo were waiting downstairs, visibly impatient.

Edward Harper warmed up some milk; each of the four family members had a cup. He watched Max and Lucas Knox finish their glasses of milk and wash their cups, then cautiously asked,

"Is it bedtime yet?"

The two little ones had no idea what their father was up to. They simply thought he wanted them to rest early and obediently crawled into the tent, settling into their spots.

"Mommy, you and Daddy have to come in too. I want us all together."

Clara felt like she'd been cornered and slid into the tent as well, lying next to Lucas. With the lights in the living room turned off, soft moonlight streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Max, exhausted from playing all day, closed his eyes and soon his steady breathing filled the air.
