Edward Harper looked at Grandpa and froze for a moment, unable to react quickly enough to say anything.
Clara Knox was sitting with her back to the door and didn't see Grandpa standing there. She noticed Edward's sudden emotional withdrawal, dissatisfaction bubbling up as she hooked her hands around his neck, tilted her face up, and leaned closer to entangle herself with him again.
Edward stiffened but couldn't bear to shy away from her passion. Under Grandpa's watchful gaze, though, he couldn't respond to her, so he sat there woodenly while she wreaked havoc on his lips.
"What's wrong with you?"
Clara sensed his distraction. Just now, he had pressed her down for a kiss, and now he was ignoring her. What was his deal?
Edward licked his lips and glanced toward the door again.
"Clara, get down for a second."
Clara furrowed her delicate brows, clearly displeased with his attitude.
