Edward Harper closed the book and put it aside, calling her,
"Come on up!"
Clara Knox inexplicably felt that this way of interacting felt a bit like an old married couple's; habits can be a dreadful thing.
She had gotten used to being held by him while sleeping these last few days; she admitted sometimes sleeping alone felt a bit lonely, and sleeping in his arms was much more calming.
Clara Knox lifted her leg onto the bed, lying down gently on one side,
"Edward Harper, I'm tired today."
Her hint was obvious.
Edward Harper chuckled softly,
"Come here, I won't touch you."
Clara Knox gave him a suspicious look again, and Edward Harper assured her,
"Really won't touch you, come over, just to sleep together."
The words Edward Harper spoke in bed proved trustworthy for once; he really did nothing but hold her while they slept. It had been Clara Knox's most restful sleep recently.
No one disturbed her, being held by him, warm and secure.
