Chapter 13 This is the Fox I Raised

Nightfall.

The Jennings Family villa was shrouded in silence, with only a few bedrooms still lit.

Scarlett lay on the pink princess bed, gazing at the starry sky painted above, its faint glow scattering in the night—dreamy yet comforting.

It was meant to prevent a child from waking up in the middle of the night, scared of the surrounding darkness.

From the arrangement of the room alone, one could tell how much Lucas's parents anticipated her birth.

It was a kinship that Scarlett had never felt before.

Because in the Garrison Family, there was never any anticipation for her arrival.

If there had to be an expectation, it was probably for her death.

After all, her death could bring a lifetime of fortune and smooth sailing for Isolde Garrison.

Scarlett closed her eyes, refusing to think about the people and matters of the Garrison Family, and instead started contemplating another issue—

Ever since she entered the Jennings Household, no one had mentioned her biological mother.

Was she no longer alive?

Or was there another hidden story?

Just as she was pondering, a familiar cry pierced sharply into her consciousness, prompting Scarlett to abruptly open her eyes.

Thinking of something, her expression changed, and she suddenly got up, grabbed a coat, and quickly ran to the window.

That was the direction from which the voice came.

Opening the window, Scarlett only took one glance at the dark night sky. The next second, a Yellow Talisman magically appeared in her hand, and she briskly tossed it into the air while quickly chanting,

"Heaven and earth be clear, universe unite, I declare the Imperial Decree, let the gentle breeze come!"

After chanting, she braced herself with one hand and leaped out of the third-floor windowsill without hesitation.

The next second, a breeze enveloping the Yellow Talisman flew back towards her, and as Scarlett's body plummeted, it seemed as if it was wrapped by the breeze, which then gently carried her safely to the ground.

By the window on the second floor, Lucas Jennings, who was furiously "battling" with his brother on his phone, caught a glimpse of something falling from above. Distracted, he turned his head, causing his game to pop up a death notification.

"Oh my dad!"

Lucas exclaimed in agony, leaping up from his chair, remembering who lived upstairs, and stormed to the window in rage, wanting to see what his uncouth cousin had thrown down.

He was ready to retrieve whatever it was and throw it back directly at her face.

However, as he peered down, he saw a figure rapidly moving through the garden. Just as Lucas tried to take a closer look, the figure had already vanished.

Lucas stared intently in the direction where the figure had disappeared.

"What the ghost?"

Although engrossed in his game, Lucas had excellent vision.

That silhouette just now, why did it look so much like that charlatan Scarlett?

And when did she come downstairs??

At the main gate, as soon as Scarlett exited, she quickly ran in a specific direction.

From a distance, she spotted a three-story villa, brightly lit inside, and as she approached, she could faintly hear some chaotic noises within.

"Ow ow!"

Another familiar cry sounded. Scarlett briskly walked and then ran to the villa's main gate. Through the garden's iron gate, she indeed saw several bodyguards chasing a small creature around.

Just as one of the bodyguards took out a baton aiming to hit the creature, Scarlett's expression changed, and she shouted through the gate,

"Don't touch it! I'm its keeper!"

Amidst speaking, Scarlett Garrison had already subconsciously wanted to pull out a Talisman. However, before she could make a move, it seemed that a muffled voice came through the bodyguard's walkie-talkie. Suddenly, one of them gestured, and the bodyguard who was about to act instantly withdrew the stick in his hand.

The next second, the iron gate in front of Scarlett Garrison automatically opened, and she quickly walked inside. The little creature previously surrounded by the bodyguards also darted towards her swiftly.

The little fellow, initially hidden in the shadows, now revealed its true form.

A pure white little fox, its round chubby body dragging a fat fluffy tail, and, surprisingly, it even carried a pet backpack on its back, visibly filled with items. As it ran, the backpack swung back and forth on its back.

In just a few steps, the little fox reached Scarlett Garrison, clung to her legs, and began climbing her body while making a whimpering sound that seemed filled with grievances, nothing like its fierce demeanor when it growled at the bodyguards earlier.

Scarlett Garrison somewhat helplessly reached out to support the little fox's butt and held it, but she was puzzled as, with the fox's sense of smell, it shouldn't have run to the wrong place.

Just then, she caught a glint of Golden Light out of the corner of her eye.

Scarlett Garrison instinctively looked up, only to see a large familiar Golden Light at the villa's entrance.

Upon closer inspection, it was a person.

And not just any person, but an acquaintance.

Samuel·Golden Light·Boss Chalmers·Great Demon King.

Was this actually Boss Chalmers's home?

The Golden Light surrounding Samuel Chalmers shone even more brilliantly in the night, and it took Scarlett Garrison a while before her eyes finally adjusted.

Holding the little fox, Scarlett Garrison approached, slightly embarrassed.

"Mr. Chalmers, I apologize, this is my fox. It came to find me, but it must have gone to the wrong place."

Samuel Chalmers looked at the girl, obviously hastily dressed in thin pajamas, only managing to throw on a coat, now holding the little fox in her arms with slight creases and faint paw prints on her clothes, his brows slightly furrowed, his face not revealing much emotion.

"It doesn't look like it went to the wrong place."

Samuel Chalmers's voice, deep and raspy like the ancient pine, seemed cooler in the night, his pale eyes almost imperceptibly sweeping over the little fox in Scarlett Garrison's arms.

Following his gaze, Scarlett looked down only to see Pretty Hamilton, who had been whimpering in her arms now stretching its neck, eagerly trying to get closer to Samuel Chalmers.

Its fox eyes were fixed intently on Samuel, shining and black.

Scarlett Garrison had no doubt that if it hadn't been held by her now, the little fox would have already snuggled up to Boss Chalmers.

In that moment, she realized why the fox had "run to the wrong place."

It was obviously attracted to the Golden Light!

"Pretty Foxy!"

With a warning threat in her call, Scarlett Garrison slightly tightened her hold.

I haven't even got a touch of that Golden Light, and you want to rub against it.

Don't even think about it!

The warned little fox finally subdued the fur it wanted to flaunt towards Samuel Chalmers, no longer struggling to get closer, but those beautiful fox eyes still hopelessly stared at the person in front of it.

Scarlett Garrison, finding it pitiful, instinctively stepped forward, "It actually just likes attractive people…"

Unexpectedly, just as her foot stepped forward, Samuel Chalmers subtly retreated half a step back at the entrance.

Scarlett Garrison's forward motion instantly stiffened, her lips twitching slightly.

Was this… a rejection?

She looked down at the little fox in her arms, which had gotten a bit dirty from the chaotic night.

Scarlett Garrison firmly thought,

The Great Demon King must be disdainful of this little fox.

Definitely.
