Chapter 15 Riding on the Coattails of a Big Shot's Golden Light

Scarlett hurried downstairs, and as soon as she reached the bottom, a snow-white figure darted to her feet. Then, with agile movements, it climbed all the way up into her arms.

The butler and bodyguards who had been following the little fox stopped in their tracks upon seeing this.

At the same time, the other members of the Jennings Family saw the little fox nestled in Scarlett's embrace.

"Scarlett, this fox wasn't brought by you, was it?" Odessa was the first to react, her face full of surprise, "This is a fox; there are kids in the house. What if it bites someone?"

"Of course, it's her. I said last night not to let it in the house, but she just wouldn't listen!" Lucas Jennings also came downstairs upon hearing the commotion and immediately fanned the flames upon hearing this.

"This is my pet fox, but it won't hurt anyone without reason," Scarlett said, holding the little fox firmly, her tone confident.

"A fox is a wild animal, hard to tame. Just because you say it won't bite doesn't mean it won't."

Another young man of similar age to Scarlett spoke up nearby. It was Adam Jennings from the second branch of the family, and his cold gaze clearly showed he wasn't thrilled about Scarlett's return either.

Lucas Jennings instantly chimed in, "Exactly! Exactly!"

Perhaps sensing Lucas Jennings' repeated targeting, the little fox lifted its head from Scarlett's arms and turned to snarl fiercely at Lucas Jennings.

Lucas Jennings immediately took a step back, pointing at the fox and shouting, "Look at it! Just look at it!"

Then another childish voice chimed in fearfully, "Mommy! I'm scared! Make it go away! Go away!"

It was the youngest daughter from the second branch, Ismeria Jennings, six and a half years old, now clinging fearfully to Odessa's leg.

When Donovan Jennings entered, he saw this very scene: Scarlett standing at the foot of the stairs with the fox in her arms, surrounded by people as if they were staging a public denunciation.

With a habitual yet slightly cold smile at the corner of his mouth, Donovan Jennings walked forward directly, simply saying, "The fox is here with my permission for Scarlett to keep. If anyone has objections, you can bring them to me."

The Jennings Family cousins were incredulous upon hearing that Donovan Jennings supported this.

Azura Loomis, standing nearby, stepped forward with a gentle tone, "Cousin, we're not trying to target Scarlett; it's just that the fox appeared so suddenly, and about Grandma…"

She trailed off, but everyone knew what she meant.

Grandmother Jennings disliked furry pets and had always prohibited them at home. Given her poor health, no one generally dared to go against her wishes. Although she was currently resting at a mountain resort, if she returned and saw a fox at home, wouldn't she be furious enough to fall ill?

Azura Loomis was subtly reminding Donovan Jennings that not all matters could be decided solely by him for his sister.

With a mere glance at Azura Loomis, Donovan Jennings only offered a faint smile and said, "I will speak to Grandma about it."

Though he smiled, his tone left no room for dispute.

Then he turned his head, giving orders to those trailing behind him.

"The pet house should be set up in the east garden, and put up a canopy."

Only then did everyone notice that behind Donovan Jennings stood two workers carrying boxes of lumber, as if they had prepared everything needed for the fox's accommodation.

Scarlett had received Donovan Jennings' assurance last night, but she hadn't expected that so early in the morning he would have the fox's home ready.

Holding Pretty Hamilton a bit tighter, Scarlett abandoned her original plan to send Pretty back to her rental.

With someone providing protection for her, she couldn't lag behind.

That wouldn't be considerate.

With Donovan Jennings' authoritative presence, Lucas Jennings and the others dared not offer any more opinions on Scarlett keeping the fox. They simply waited for Grandmother Jennings' return, wondering how Donovan Jennings would continue to protect Scarlett then.

Scarlett, unaware of their thoughts, went upstairs with Pretty Hamilton, changed her clothes, had breakfast, and then carefully brushed the fox's fur to ensure every hair was sleek and shiny before she was satisfied to leave the house with it.

Due to waking up late, Scarlett didn't leave the house until ten-thirty in the morning. Thinking that by this time, Samuel Chalmers was probably already at the company, Scarlett still decided to visit and apologize for the commotion last night.

What she didn't expect was that Samuel Chalmers was actually home.

Dressed meticulously from head to toe in a suit that bespoke of readying to head out, he sat there casually. The golden light surrounding him seemed to envelop him entirely, dazzling as ever.

Scarlett blinked to adjust slightly before approaching with the little fox in her arms, "Oh, Samuel, you're home."

Samuel Chalmers watched her blink, his dark pupils hiding something profound, yet his face remained impassive, betraying no emotion as he said, "You mentioned you would be here in the morning."

Scarlett was bewildered for a moment at his words. Could he have been ready and waiting at home because she said she planned to visit and apologize?

No way, right?

Doesn't the boss's time worth hundreds of thousands per minute?

So… free?

Scarlett focused on the visit, unbeknownst to her that Samuel Chalmers was focused on her mention of "in the morning."

Great Demon Chalmers had obsessive tendencies, one of which was keeping promises. She said she would visit in the morning, so he waited.

Yet he hadn't expected her morning to mean ten-thirty A.M.

"I'm truly sorry about last night. My fox caused a bit of trouble, so as an apology, here's a peace charm I carved myself."

Scarlett handed over a Blessing Bag containing a Jade Token. The token was engraved by her, with a rune of fortune and peace on the back.

Considering the golden light around Samuel Chalmers, which no demon dared approach, he obviously didn't need any strong talismans to dispel evil. So she chose this one.

Especially since the Jade Token was made of high-quality jade imbued with spiritual power, its effect was purer, and it was a gesture to establish goodwill with the boss's golden light. With hope, she might even benefit from it.

Samuel Chalmers accepted the Blessing Bag without opening it, signaling the butler to store it away, which meant he accepted Scarlett's "apology."

Scarlett couldn't help but remind, "The peace charm only works if you carry it with you."

Samuel Chalmers paused slightly before gesturing the butler to stop, stuffing the Blessing Bag into his own suit pocket.

Scarlett smiled contentedly only then.

Seeing the "apology" process finished, Samuel Chalmers didn't linger longer, getting up to leave.

Scarlett followed with the little fox in her arms.

As they walked side by side, she discreetly reached out, making a scooping motion towards his golden aura. In the next moment, she saw two golden specks caught in her palm.

Scarlett's wide eyes reflected her surprise.

She actually got some!

"What are you doing?" Samuel Chalmers asked coldly, clearly noticing her gesture.

Caught red-handed, Scarlett remained calm, finding an excuse easily, "Could you give me a lift since you're heading out too? I need to go out."

Samuel Chalmers' gaze suspiciously scanned her face, suddenly recalling the peace charm she gave.

A charm meant to cover both apology and hitching a ride… two uses with one charm, she was certainly efficient.

Though he thought so, he didn't show it outwardly, merely nodding his head grudgingly.

Scarlett thus climbed into the car, cradling the little fox.

Samuel Chalmers' gaze landed once more on the fox in her arms, his deep black eyes carrying a hint of scrutiny. She quickly explained, "I bathed it once we got home last night. It's clean."

Pressing his lips together, Samuel Chalmers merely asked, "Where to?"

Scarlett's almond-shaped eyes brightened as she replied, "To the Silva Family."

She intended to earn some extra cash.
