Chapter 12 She Wants to Thank Her in Person

Leaving the warm embrace, Yan Xi only felt a chill pervading all around her, hastily burrowed into the warm blanket, turned over, and had her back facing the man.

A solitary tear slipped from the corner of her eye, concealed by the darkness, soundlessly.

Yan Xi woke up to find the man beside her gone. She hid the disappointment in her eyes, got up to wash and dress, and then made her way downstairs.

Yu Siting sat on the living room sofa, and when he heard footsteps coming from upstairs, he glanced up.

Yan Xi wore light-colored jeans and a very simple white shirt, her hair tied in a ponytail at the back of her head, exuding a youthful vibe all over.

Seeing Yu Siting on the sofa, her steps faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered, her eyes smiling as she greeted him.

"President Yu, good morning."

Hearing the formality in her address, his gaze grew colder.

"Good morning."

His voice, devoid of warmth, fell as he continued to peruse the magazine in his hand.

Aunt Lin had prepared breakfast and, seeing Yan Xi descending the stairs, hurriedly called both to eat, "Young Master, Young Madam, breakfast is ready."

Yan Xi nodded slightly and stepped into the dining room, pulling out a chair to sit down.

Yu Siting came in expressionless and sat in front of Yan Xi.

They sat face to face, neither speaking a word.

After breakfast, Yan Xi rose to leave.

Yu Siting also put down his chopsticks and glanced at Yan Xi, "Take my car."

At his words, Yan Xi nodded in agreement, "Okay."

Her car was still at the old lady's, and the driver had not yet returned it to her.

Hospital.

Zhao Xue'er had been waiting at the door of Yan Xi's office early in the morning.

Seeing Yan Xi and Yu Siting walk out of the elevator together, her facial expression stiffened slightly.

"You came together?"

Yan Xi cast a casual glance at the man beside her and, seeing that he didn't answer, her lips curved slightly as she nodded.

"Yes."

Her clean and crisp response immediately drew a warning look from Yu Siting.

"President Yu went out of his way to pick me up."

"Miss Zhao is really fortunate to have President Yu care so much for you."

Zhao Xue'er's guarded expression relaxed somewhat after hearing Yan Xi's words.

"Siting and I, we are just ordinary friends."

She was clearly ill, clad in a patient's attire, and when she spoke softly and weakly, it conjured a vulnerability that involuntarily elicited sympathy.

Being a woman, even Yan Xi couldn't help but be attracted by Zhao Xue'er's frail beauty, let alone Yu Siting.

Her gaze swept over Yu Siting at her side, only to see his brows deeply furrowed, his eyes revealing unhidden concern.

Yan Xi smiled faintly and responded, "I understand."

Previously, Zhao Xue'er had always held herself as Yu Siting's girlfriend in front of her, but after being exposed yesterday that he was married, she naturally could only claim to be a friend.

After all, labels like homewrecker and mistress weren't exactly pleasant to hear.

"Take Miss Zhao back to the room to rest. A nurse will come later to take you to the operating table."

Yan Xi's gaze moved past Yu Siting and she stepped into her office.

Seeing Yu Siting's gaze lingering on Yan Xi, Zhao Xue'er's brows knitted tightly.

"Siting…."

Zhao Xue'er clenched her teeth in secret, speaking softly.

Only then did Yu Siting shift his gaze, "Let's go, back to the room."

Zhao Xue'er nodded lightly, obediently following Yu Siting back to the room.

The surgery lasted five hours.

Yan Xi kept her eyes on the surgical assistant as he sutured the wound, only leaving the operating table after confirming that all the data was correct.

Everyone maintained a high level of vigilance during the surgery to ensure nothing went wrong.

After all, the relationship between Zhao Xue'er and Yu Siting was there for all to see.

If anything had gone wrong with her, the hospital would probably not have been able to continue operating.

Yan Xi left the operating room through a side door and glanced outside through the small window as she passed by the entrance.

Yu Siting was still sitting in the same spot where he had been when the surgery started, his expression solemn, tinged with worry.

Yan Xi averted her gaze and spoke in a low voice to her assistant.

"Go inform the family."

The assistant nodded.

After cleaning up, Yan Xi changed back into her white coat and returned to her office, feeling faint with hunger.

She took a sip of water from her cup and glanced at the time—an hour later she had another surgery. She sighed, took out a piece of bread from her bag, and decided to make do.

Yu Siting's tall figure appeared in the doorway, his expressionless face looking at the woman nibbling on her bread as he frowned.

"Is this what you're eating for lunch?"

Yan Xi put down the bread, looked up at the man who had already taken a seat opposite her, "I have another operation shortly, the cafeteria is past lunchtime, and going outside would waste time."

Her response was natural, and while she glanced at the bread beside her, she still patiently conversed with him.

"Miss Zhao's surgery was a success. She needs to rest for a while. Once she recovers, it won't affect her fertility."

"This is the most successful surgery I've ever performed."

Yu Siting grunted coldly, without saying much, his dark eyes glancing at her meaningfully before he got up and left.

Yan Xi waited for him to leave before picking up the bread again, and after finishing it, she felt a slight sense of satiety.

However, she was now pregnant and knew that meal replacements like this wouldn't keep up with the nutrition the baby needed.

She sighed, feeling unreasonably despondent.

About ten minutes later, Assistant Chen walked into Yan Xi's office carrying a basket.

"Miss Yan, these are fresh dishes just prepared by Grand Feast, President Yu said you worked hard on Miss Zhao's surgery, so this is a reward for you."

Grand Feast was her favorite restaurant before she got married, and she enjoyed the food there.

After marriage, she visited less frequently, and it had been quite a while since her last visit.

She reached out to take the basket Assistant Chen handed over, her voice indifferent, "Please thank President Yu for me."

Assistant Chen saw no trace of sadness on Yan Xi's face, heaved a sigh of relief internally, and left respectfully to report back to Yu Siting.

"Miss Yan accepted the basket and asked me to thank you on her behalf."

Yu Siting sat expressionless on the sofa, nodded slightly, his deep black eyes revealing no change in emotion.

An hour later, Yan Xi's next surgery began.

She went to prepare twenty minutes early.

Zhao Xue'er had awoken. Seeing Yu Siting still sitting on the sofa in her hospital room, she felt a flicker of joy.

"Siting..."

Her voice was incredibly weak. Yu Siting set down the document in his hand and stood up.

"The surgery was very successful. You need to rest now and take care of your health."

Zhao Xue'er nodded gently, managing a pale smile, "I need to thank Dr. Yan as well. Siting, could you call her over for me? I want to thank her in person."

Yu Siting nodded slightly, not refusing.

He turned and left Zhao Xue'er's hospital room to find Yan Xi.

The door to Yan Xi's office was slightly ajar, and upon entering, the first thing he saw was the "Grand Feast" basket on the table.

He walked over and lifted the lid, only to see that all the dishes lay untouched inside the basket.
