Noah Bates vigilantly watched over Violet Don for the entire first month; when she awoke from the abyss, the blinding sunlight greeted her eyes. She lay on the bed in a daze, light reflecting into her pupils and back out through her lenses. Violet felt like a newborn, bewilderedly arriving in this world again.
Then, with a slight movement of her fingers, sensation triggered a chain reaction throughout her body. At first, there was a sharp, tingling pain, which grew increasingly intense until her entire body was in severe pain—the feeling of coming back to life was so vivid. Violet frowned, and a child at her side leaped up, "Mommy! You're awake!"
Violet looked at Wayne Don in front of her, her throat so hoarse she couldn't make a sound, only gaping with her mouth open. She felt her brain was still shrouded in chaos, as if her gift for language hadn't returned to her consciousness.
Wayne started crying before she did, "Mommy… you finally woke up."
