Chapter 293: Past Images, Fleeting in an Instant.

Violet Don looked at Noah Bates in front of her, unable to understand why the man's eyes could turn red from just staring at an egg. She hurriedly stood up to clean up the utensils. When she turned around, Noah had already eaten the egg, though she didn't know when he had done so. As she went to take the plate back, Noah also reached out to pick it up, their fingers touching momentarily. Violet withdrew her hand as if she had been electrocuted.

"Sorry…" She looked nervously at Noah, watching him place things in the sink. His body was like a bow drawn taut, suppressing some emotion. Violet turned to look at him and asked softly, "Sir, was it you who paid for my hospital expenses?"

Noah turned his face to her, his solemn features still flawless but his gaze deeper, filled with… an emotion Violet couldn't understand, yet found startling.

The man's voice was hoarse as he said, "You needn't worry about the expenses."

"But…"

"It's what I owe you."
