The Great Hall was a cacophony of sound. Clattering cutlery, chattering students, and the echoing pronouncements of Professor Mic filled the cavernous space. Shoto Todoroki, looking utterly out of place in his Gryffindor robes, poked listlessly at his plate of sausages. He missed soba. So, so much soba.
"Honestly, Shoto, you'd think they were trying to poison you," Izuku Midoriya chuckled, his bright green eyes crinkling behind round spectacles. He devoured his breakfast with gusto, already planning his day. "Charms first thing, then Potions. Think you'll be able to keep Kacchan from blowing up the cauldron this time?"
A scowl darkened Shoto's face. "He nearly singed my eyebrow off yesterday. I swear, that blonde Pomeranian has no self-control."
Across the hall, a certain blonde exploded with laughter. Katsuki Bakugo, looking surprisingly at home in Slytherin green, was regaling his cronies – Eijiro Kirishima, Hanta Sero, Denki Kaminari, Mina Ashido, and Kyoka Jiro – with what was probably a highly exaggerated account of his Potions disaster. Kirishima roared with laughter, slapping Bakugo on the back. Mina Ashido's pink skin glowed with amusement while Kyoka Jiro, despite her smirk, seemed less impressed. Sero, ever the pragmatist, was already gathering spilled ingredients.
"He's a menace," Tenya Iida declared, adjusting his spectacles with a precise movement. He sat ramrod straight, his breakfast already consumed. "We must strive to be exemplary students, Midoriya, Todoroki. Uphold the reputation of Gryffindor!"
Ochaco Uraraka, her cheeks round and flushed, nodded enthusiastically. "Right! We should probably get to Charms early. Professor Flitwick said we're starting on Wingardium Leviosa today."
Tsuyu Asui, ever the quiet observer, said, "I hope I can get the 'swish and flick' right, kero."
The morning was a blur of spells and near-disasters. Charms was predictably chaotic. Izuku, despite his initial nervousness, grasped the levitation spell with surprising ease, his feather floating gracefully in the air. Shoto, with his naturally cool demeanor, managed a passable levitation, though his feather wobbled precariously. Tenya, bless his heart, was so focused on proper wand etiquette that his feather remained stubbornly on the desk. Ochaco, giggling as she accidentally set her quill afloat, was just happy nothing exploded. Tsuyu managed a small wobble and declared it a decent attempt for her.
Potions, however, was another matter entirely. Aizawa Shota, looking even more perpetually exhausted than usual – swept into the dungeon, his black robes billowing behind him. The air immediately chilled.
"Today," he drawled, his voice a monotone that could curdle milk, "you will be brewing a simple Cure for Boils. The instructions are on the board. Do not deviate. Do not experiment. And for the love of Merlin, do not explode anything."
The class erupted in frantic activity. Izuku, carefully following the instructions, diced his ingredients with meticulous precision. Shoto, with his inherent control, measured and stirred with a quiet efficiency. Tenya, in his eagerness to be perfectly correct, nearly tripped over his own feet, sending a vial of sneezing powder flying. Ochaco floated the ingredients to stop them from falling, and Tsuyu did what she could to help Iida while still trying to brew the potion.
Meanwhile, across the room, Bakugo was already causing mayhem. He added a pinch of boomslang skin where valerian sprigs were supposed to be, and the cauldron began to bubble ominously. Kirishima, attempting to intervene, only managed to knock over a jar of essence of daisy, which coated Sero in sticky yellow goo. Kaminari, bored already, was trying to hypnotize a newt with a butter knife. Minarecorded everything with her phone, commenting on how chaotic the scene was. Jiro was rolling her eyes, but a small smirk played on her lips.
