Chapter 71 Assassination

Jiang Li led Lin Xiao, Su Yao and Ye Xiaoke along the winding path that was hidden among the mountains and forests, hurrying on their way.

The surrounding area was as quiet as a dead abyss. Only their somewhat disordered footsteps echoed in the eerie silence, sounding particularly abrupt and startling.

Suddenly, a faint yet sharp sound of clothes flapping in the wind, like the whisper of the Grim Reaper, instantly tore through this oppressive silence.

Jiang Li was as vigilant as a prey being targeted by a leopard. He growled in a low voice,"Be careful! There's an enemy attack!" Hearing this, Lin Xiao and Su Yao quickly grasped the weapons in their hands and scanned every shadow around them with their eyes as vigilant as hawks.

In an instant, a group of dark figures, like ghosts pouring out of hell, shot out from the woods in all directions.

They were as agile as cunning foxes, and their speed was as fast as lightning cutting through the night sky. In the blink of an eye, they surrounded Jiang Li and the others so tightly that it was like an impenetrable iron barrel.

All of these people were dressed in pitch-black night clothes. Their faces were completely covered by black cloth, only revealing pairs of eyes that shone with a cold and gloomy light, like hungry wolves. In their hands, they tightly held shining sharp blades that exuded the aura of death. The intense murderous intent was like a surging tsunami, sweeping over them overwhelmingly.

"Jiang Li, you've really made it hard for us to find you. I never expected that in such a short time, you'd come thousands of miles away!" A man in black snorted coldly in a dull and hoarse voice, which seemed to come out of a rotten coffin and was filled with endless murderous intent.

Jiang Li's heart sank suddenly. Although it was hard to figure out the exact origin of these people for the moment, he didn't have many enemies. After a little speculation, he thought that they were either sent by Madam Wang or those bootlicking young masters.

Without any hesitation, he suddenly raised the long sword in his hand. He was just like an enraged tiger and rushed towards the men in black in front of him as swiftly as an arrow leaving the bowstring. At the same time, he shouted loudly,"Lin Xiao, Su Yao, be on guard carefully and don't be careless!"

Jiang Li rushed alone into the enemy formation. The long sword in his hand instantly turned into a frosty dragon, charging left and right among the enemies.

His swordsmanship was exquisite and unpredictable. Sometimes it stabbed out like a rainbow piercing through the sun. Wherever the sword pointed, the men in black scurried away in panic like frightened birds. Sometimes it slashed horizontally like the autumn wind sweeping away the fallen leaves. The sword wind roared past, and when the sharp blade collided with the black clothes, sparks like fireworks burst out here and there.

However, the enemies were like an endless tide, surging forward wave after wave.

Although Jiang Li fought back with all his might, his body was soon slashed by the enemies' sharp blades in many places. Blood oozed out continuously and quickly dyed his clothes red.

However, his movements were not sluggish or slow at all. The long sword in his hand was still brandished vigorously. Every sword thrust was filled with his unwavering determination as firm as a rock and his will to rather die than submit, as if he was sending the strongest roar and resistance to the enemies.

Lin Xiao and Su Yao responded in unison. Immediately, like two war gods, they unleashed their strength as Martial Lords and charged bravely towards the enemies on both sides.

Lin Xiao tightly grasped the long knife with both hands. With a deafening roar erupting from his mouth, the veins on his arms bulged. He hacked at the enemies with great force.

Every time he swung the knife, it carried tremendous power. The air was torn apart by this powerful force, emitting a sharp whistling sound, forcing the enemies to avoid its edge for the time being and not dare to confront it head-on.

Although Su Yao was a woman, at this moment, she showed the heroic spirit of women being no inferior to men.

She was light and agile, like a butterfly dancing gracefully among the flowers. She skillfully shuttled among the enemies. The short sword in her hand glittered with a cold light, like a meteor in the dark night. From time to time, she thrust out deadly strikes like a snake spitting out its tongue.

However, the number of enemies was much larger than they had estimated, and each of them was highly skilled in martial arts. They cooperated with each other seamlessly, just like a precisely operating killing machine.

Although the four of them fought with all their strength and resisted tenaciously, they were a bit overwhelmed by the fierce attacks of the enemies for a while. Nevertheless, relying on their superb martial arts skills and indomitable will, they never fell behind.

Ye Xiaoke had never stayed out of it from the beginning to the end. Although she was small in stature, she possessed astonishing strength. Relying on her unique "Ghost Shadow Step", she moved as swiftly as lightning and quickly shuttled along the edge of the enemies' encirclement, looking for opportunities to attack.

Seizing an opportunity, she suddenly jumped high and nimbly flashed into the enemies' encirclement like a swallow skimming over the water.

After entering the battle circle, she displayed her fist and foot skills. Every punch she threw was accompanied by a whistling wind, as if it could split mountains and rocks.

However, due to her lack of combat experience, when dealing with the cunning attacks of the enemies, she inevitably seemed a bit naive and reckless.

One of the men in black spotted Ye Xiaoke's weakness. Taking advantage of the moment when her move was exhausted and before she could gather new strength, he pounced on her as fiercely as a wolf preying on its prey. The sharp blade in his hand glinted with a deadly cold light and was aimed straight at Ye Xiaoke's vital parts.

Ye Xiaoke's eyes widened in horror as she tried to dodge, but she was too slow to react. She was about to be stabbed by the sharp blade. Jiang Li and the others were currently being entangled by other enemies. Although they were extremely worried, they couldn't break free and rush to her rescue for a moment.

At this critical moment, a figure seemed to appear out of nowhere like a celestial being descending from the sky. He flashed in as swiftly as a ghost. Dressed in a tight outfit, he stood as straight as a green pine or cypress, standing proudly between heaven and earth.

His face was as cold as frost, and his eyes emitted a sharp light like a blade, as if they could penetrate all the illusions in the world.

With a long knife in his hand, his clothes flapped loudly in the wind. When the light of the knife flickered, it was like a brilliant meteor streaking across the night sky or lightning tearing through the darkness.

Without hesitation, he rushed into the enemy group. As he swung the long knife, every strike was precise, just like a scalpel in a surgeon's hand, aiming straight at the enemies' vital parts, and every move was deadly.

In an instant, several black-clothed assassins fell down like kites with broken strings before they could even let out a scream.

"Enough of this child's play!" His voice was as cold as an ice blade, as if it came from the depths of the Nine Nether Hell, full of unshakable coldness and determination.

The man was dressed in a tight outfit, standing tall and straight. His face was cold and stern, and his eyes were filled with a sharp light.

He rushed into the group of men in black, and somehow, a long knife appeared in his hand. As he brandished the long knife, a swath of blood was drawn.

His moves were fierce and sharp. Every time the knife fell, a man in black would fall down with a scream.

His actions were as smooth as flowing clouds and running water. It seemed that he was in an uninhabited land within the encirclement formed by the men in black. Wherever he went, the men in black fell down one after another. Before long, the ground was littered with the corpses of the men in black in disarray.

Jiang Li and the others were stunned when they saw this man in the tight outfit who had suddenly appeared.

When the mysterious man put away his knife and stood still, then turned to look at them, Jiang Li finally came to his senses. He quickly clasped his fists and saluted, saying,"Thank you, great hero, for your help. Otherwise, we would have been in a very difficult situation today."

The man didn't answer. Instead, he turned to look at Ye Xiaoke not far away.

All of a sudden, his figure flashed and he pounced towards Ye Xiaoke like a ghost. He reached out his hand, trying to snatch her away.
