After Damian left to make the necessary arrangements, Adrien leaned back in his chair, staring at his journal. His mind wandered. "Why don't I learn about magic?" he thought aloud. The idea intrigued him, though he'd never truly ventured into the art before. Determined, he made his way to the royal library, its towering shelves filled with countless books on every subject imaginable.
As he scanned the rows, his eyes landed on a thin book with a rather unimpressive title: Magic 101. Adrien sighed, shaking his head. "How cliché," he muttered, pulling it from the shelf. Still, it seemed approachable enough, and he wasn't looking to overwhelm himself on the first attempt.
With the book in hand, Adrien headed to one of the empty training halls. The space was vast, the polished floors reflecting the faint glow of sunlight streaming in through tall windows. He settled down near the center of the room, flipping through the pages. The instructions were simple, almost too simple, but Adrien figured it was a good place to start.
As he read through the basics, focusing on the rudimentary principles of mana control and spellcasting, a knock echoed through the hall, followed by Damian's familiar voice.
"Your Highness, all the arrangements have been made. Whenever you're ready to depart, everything will be prepared swiftly," Damian announced from the other side of the door.
Adrien froze, momentarily flustered. His gaze darted toward the book in his lap. "One minute! I'm… changing," Adrien called back, quickly getting up and walking over to the closet. Inside, he found a set of casual training clothes and decided to change into them to avoid any questions.
Once ready, he returned to the center of the room and called out, "You can come in now."
Damian stepped inside, his sharp eyes immediately scanning the room. They landed on the book in Adrien's hands, and a faint twitch appeared at the corner of his lips.
"Your Highness," Damian began, his tone carefully neutral, though amusement shimmered in his eyes. "What exactly are you training for?"
Adrien raised the book slightly, hesitating before replying. "Magic," he said, as nonchalantly as he could.
For a moment, Damian remained silent, his expression unreadable. Then, a soft chuckle escaped him, quickly escalating into full-blown laughter.
Adrien's eyes narrowed. "What's so funny?" he demanded, annoyance creeping into his tone.
Damian tried to compose himself, covering his mouth with a gloved hand, but the laughter persisted. "Forgive me, Your Highness," he said between chuckles. "It's just… Magic 101? A children's beginner book for learning magic? Truly, this is a sight I never expected to see."
Adrien felt his face flush with irritation. "And what's wrong with that? Everyone has to start somewhere," he shot back.
Damian finally managed to stifle his laughter, though a teasing smile lingered. "You're not wrong, Your Highness," he said, his tone still tinged with amusement. "But there are far more advanced resources available to you. This… is rather elementary."
Adrien crossed his arms. "I don't see you offering to teach me."
Damian's smile widened. "If that's an invitation, I'd be honored to help. But I must warn you, Your Highness, I won't go easy on you."
Adrien smirked, his competitive streak flaring. "Good. I wouldn't want you to."
Damian nodded, his usual composure returning. "Very well. Shall we begin?"
Adrien handed the book to Damian, who glanced at it briefly before setting it aside. "Let's start with something more practical," Damian said, stepping to the center of the room.
As the two prepared for their impromptu lesson, Adrien couldn't help but feel a mix of irritation and gratitude. Damian's teasing aside, his presence made the daunting world of magic seem just a little less overwhelming.
For now, Adrien decided, he'd let Damian have his fun. After all, there was no harm in turning a lesson into a friendly rivalry.
