I slept so peaceful that night. So peaceful, that my mind couldn’t accommodate any other thoughts but her, like the loud noise that lingered in the cold autumn air was all so suddenly quiet, and it felt nice.
“We should have a video shot by seven am today” the manager reminded the group as they had their breakfast.
But I was too focused on the text she left. An affirmation of her love displayed with two words and a red heart in the middle… a kiss emoji to round it up.
I smiled as a tap on my shoulder brought me back to my cold realization that she wasn’t present.
“Do something about your face!” Jemmy said in a playful way, narrowing his eyes with suspicion. “You’re grinning like you swallowed the sunrise.”
“He did,” Kia added, biting into his toast. “She texted, didn’t she?”
I didn’t say anything, but my silence gave it away.
