The prophecy
The moment maya and Caleb stepped outside the room, she could feel the air in the packhouse was filled with an unusual tension, her wolf paced uneasily beneath her skin. Something she couldn't quite figure out was coming she could feel it.
As they made their way toward the entrance of the main hall, she overheard the whispers of the pack members.
"Who is she?"
"She looks familiar."
"I bet she is…"
Curiosity filled her mind and she quickly dragged Caleb so they can move faster. When they entered the hall, her eyes ran a quick check on the room before she noticed the presence of a strange woman standing in the center of the hall with all gaze on her. She has striking beauty, with sharp features that drew all attention to her.
Her dark hair was dark and braided neatly into a ponytail,
The strange woman's eyes scanned the entire room, immediately her eyes was laid on Maya she paused and looked at Maya intensely.
Caleb who was with maya all along Noticed this and quickly stood at alert, ready to spring into action if need be
Alpha Marcus who was silently sitting stood up and walked to the strange woman .
"Maya," Alpha Marcus called out,
He hesitated a bit before continuing. "This is Elara."
Elara.. Elara. Immediately she heard the name, she remembered that was the name her mother had only whispered to her hear while passing that she was her estranged aunt who had left the pack years ago, never to be found.
Maya's brows raised. "You're my… aunt?"
Elara nodded, and smiled . "It's been a long time, little wolf. Too long to even remember your face clearly."
"You were such a crybaby when I left the pack years ago"
Maya crossed her arms and she flared up . "Why are you here now? After all these years you left, why show up out of the blue? , why now…?"
Elara felt emotional , but her eyes remained sharp and unshaken. "I didn't come here to disrupt your life, Maya. I only came here to warn you all of the looming danger."
Hearing her statement everyone in the hall became quiet .
"Danger?" Alpha Marcus questioned, his tone serious. "What kind of danger?"
Elara turned to him,now having a serious look. "The kind that's been foretold for generations. This is tied to Maya's bloodline … and her mate bond , which she will fight so hard to reject."
Maya's heart skipped a beat, her wolf became restless.
"And What exactly do you know about my mate bond?" she demanded in a sharp tone.
Elara moved closer to her. " I know More than you could ever imagine. Your mother and I were raised together, we grew to know of the history's of our ancestors— which she chose to ignore and hide from you."
"Why would she do that?" Maya asked, her voice seemed like a whisper.
Elara sighed,Now looking tensed. "There's an ancient prophecy tied to our bloodline. It speaks of a time when one of our kin will hold the power to either unite or destroy the pack.
That power, Maya,
resides in you!!. And it's tied to your bond with Liam."
Maya was shocked and speechless , the mention of Liam ignited a spark in her chest.
She was surprised, hearing this from her aunt. Now what she tried so hard to keep from the whole pack is now revealed to them in a way she'd least expected.
Out of disappointment she quickly expressed her displeasure in the mate bond "I didn't ask for this bond. I didn't ask for any of this." She said with tears rolling down her cheek, trying to walk away.
Elara dragged her back.
"I know," Elara said calmly. "But rejecting the bond comes with consequences that are far worse than you realize."
"What kind of consequences?" Caleb asked, as he stepped forward. His protective nature was clearly evident, which gave Maya a small wave of confidence.
Elara was quiet for a while before responding. "If you continue being insistent and do not succumb to the mate bond, the balance of power within the pack will crumble.
Forces darker than anything the pack has ever faced will rise to destroy everything the pack holds dear. The bond isn't just about you two,
Listen….
it's about the future and survival of the whole pack."
Maya clenched her fists, her mind racing. "And what if I refuse? What if I choose my own path?"
Elara's gaze hardened. "Then the power inside you will consume you and become your downfall, the mate bond turns into a curse and the packs will fall into chaos. You cannot rewrite destiny, Maya!!!"
Maya was quiet for a while as she felt cornered.
"I need time to think," Maya finally said, in a voice shaky, before leaving the hall. Caleb followed her quietly.
Elara nodded. "Take all the time you need, but remember…time is running out."
---
That evening, Maya sat alone at her favorite spot in the forest, engrossed in her thoughts.
The moon was high up in the sky, shining bright light all over the earth surface.Elara's words ran over and over in her head, her wolf growled softly within her.
"What kind of destiny did I choose!!!" she muttered grinding her teeth softly , she kicked a nearby stone out of frustration . "What about my choices? My freedom? "
"You know, you are not alone ." A voice said behind her.
Maya turned only to see Liam coming out from the shadows, he look worried.
"So you are stalking me now, right?" she asked, her voice sharp.
"You can think whatever," he said, sitting beside her despite her questioning. "Whatever angle we might look at this from ,Elara's right," he said
"Maya, firstly how could she have known about the bond, and now she telling us of a prophecy revealed long ago, now clearly this bond…it's not something we can just ignore."
She looked at him keenly before she responded .
"Easy for you to say. You're not the one who has to deal with people gossiping about you every time you pass by."
"No," Liam admitted. "But I'm the one who has to deal with you rejecting me every time I try to make peace with you."
Maya looked away, her chest tightened. "I didn't beg you to make peace with me"
"Maybe not," he said, his voice softer now. "But we need it. Whether we like it or not, we're in this together, we have to do this for the peace and safety of everyone, and even remember your aunt said if you reject this, the power you hold inside you may consume you and I wouldn't want that to happen to you., not never "
She hated how his words made her calm, because that seems like what she needed at the moment. To make it worse her wolf seemed to settle in his presence, as if sensing something she couldn't.
Liam continued. "Whatever it is that is coming, let's face it together in unity when it does, with which I believe will make us overcome it."
Before she could reply, a resounding and menacing howl similar to the last time took over the forest. This time around the sound appeared to be coming toward their direction.
Maya and Liam were both tensed, looking out for what's coming their way.
"Looks like we don't have much time on our side," Liam said, rising to his feet.
The howl grew louder, creating fear in them, then knew something dangerous was headed their way.
Maya stood beside him, her wolf was ready for whatever lay ahead.
They weren't sure what it was but it wouldn't take them long to figure things out.
