IAN'S POV
Lana let out a groan, but I could tell it was just for show. "No, I don't want to be late for daycare," she said, but she had a smile on her face.
"But can we read some more of the book when we get home?"
Leah smiled. "Absolutely, honey," she said. "We'll read as much as you want."
We gathered our things and headed out to the car, with Lana in the back seat and me in the front passenger seat.
As we drove, Leah turned to me and said, "Thank you for taking the time to get to know Lana today. I know it can be awkward to meet someone else's child, but you did a great job. I really appreciate it."
"It was my pleasure," I said. "I had fun spending time with her, and I look forward to doing it again."
Leah smiled, and we drove the rest of the way in silence. When we got to her apartment building, I helped her carry Lana and the bags up to the apartment.
