Rowena POV
My phone buzzes loudly against my desk, but it is hidden under mounds of paperwork. I shuffle through the papers on my desk, trying to locate the sound of the buzzing. Papers scatter onto the floor, and I groan as I bend down to pick them up.
While my head is buried under my desk, I hear someone open my office door. I sit upright abruptly and smash the back of my head on my desk.
"Fuck," I mutter under my breath.
"Are you okay?" Zoe asks as she shuts my office door.
"Peachy," I snap at her.
My phone is still vibrating angrily on my desk. Zoe moves a few papers and locates it quickly. She tosses it in my direction. I catch it in the air and glance at the screen. It is Mason again.
He has been calling several times a day for the past week. The messages range from apologies to anger and everything in between. I have listened to them all. The sound of his voice is soothing, even though I would never admit it out loud.
