Gabriel's POV
The main gates closed behind us with a heavy thud, a sound that momentarily encapsulated the gravity of Laura's sudden appearance. My guards positioned themselves strategically around us, their tense stances reflecting my apprehension.
"Speak," I commanded, my voice firm as we settled into a secluded meeting room. The last rays of the setting sun pierced through the windows, casting long shadows that seemed to mirror the dark conversation about to unfold between me and Laura. I was unsure what she would say but I was ready for whatever it was.
Laura's gaze lingered on mine, a complex mix of emotions flickering through her eyes before she took a deep breath. "I've been living in the human city the past few years; it allows me... certain freedoms," she started, her voice steady. "And it was there that I started keeping tabs on you, Gabriel. Out of... curiosity, I suppose."
