CHAPTER 26

  Caroline's POV

He looked taken aback by my calmness as I parted his back gently, and he relaxed immediately. He looked at me with emotions swirling in his eyes. He stood up and looked at the bed with an expressionless face. "I don't feel sleepy. You can go to bed, I'll join you later," he said, turning to walk to the door, but I quickly reached for his hand.

"Where are you going?" I asked with a frown. He smiled at me as if trying to reassure me.

"It's okay. I'll be back soon. I just want to take some air outside and after that, I promise I'll come back to meet you here but don't wait for me," he said as he caressed my hand tenderly.

Shaking my head, I quickly spoke. "Let me join you there. I also want to get some breather. I mean if you don't mind actually," I responded, and he smiled at me.

"I just want some time for myself, so just stay here. I promise to be back before you notice," he added, pulling his hand away from my grip.
