CHAPTER 46 Tug of War

  Hazel finally fell asleep, unable to settle the turmoil in her heart. She had gently but firmly turned Flynn away when he offered to stay the night. Hazel had cited the need for secrecy and managing her feelings slowly. Flynn had no choice but to agree, though reluctantly.

  "Grrrrr!" Flynn growled like an angry lion as he flipped through the documents in front of him. The issue with Hazel was gnawing at his mind, even after their recent intimate moments.

  "You sound like a lion throwing a tantrum, Boss," Gillian said suddenly as she entered his office, carrying—of course—a pile of boring documents. "Ugh! That land dispute again!" she grumbled, slamming the documents on an empty table across from her boss.

  "Lower your voice!" Flynn shot her a sharp look, his eyes glinting with restrained anger. The sound of Gillian's footsteps and the thud of the documents tightened his nerves. He couldn't tolerate those sounds right now.
