"Hazel humiliated you?" Alfred asked, squinting his eyes. He even sat on the sofa now, trying to maintain his composure. "Are you serious?"
"Yes! Hic ... why would I lie, Alfred?!" Grace pouted. This time, her crying grew louder. She couldn't be lying, right? Not to Alfred, of course not.
Alfred shook his head slowly. Taking a deep breath, he said, "This is a very funny joke. Very funny, Grace," he said, roughly wiping his oily face. Alfred had just come home from work, and the exhaustion was still evident on his face.
"What?!"
"If you said you humiliated Hazel, I might believe it. But this? Impossible," Alfred waved his hand. He knew Hazel and Grace's temperaments very well. If Hazel humiliated Grace, then Grace had miscalculated her steps. Alfred was sure Grace must have started trouble with her first.
"You don't believe me?" Grace widened her eyes. Alfred coughed.
"That's not what I mean, Darling."
