Relief washed over me as Alexander answered his phone the moment we got into the car. The usual awkward tension that simmered between us whenever we were alone together disappeared, replaced by a comfortable silence that was only broken by the low murmur of his conversation.
I tried to focus on the scenery blurring past the window, a movie playing on the car's entertainment system failing to hold my attention.
Despite myself, I found my gaze drawn to Alexander every few seconds. His brow furrowed in concentration as he spoke, a hint of frustration flickering across his features before he smoothed it out with practiced ease. The way his strong jaw clenched and relaxed with each word spoken sent a shiver down my spine.
I chastised myself silently. This was my boss, a man I was lying to by omission, a very huge omission, and yet, here I was, captivated by his every move.
