  Robert laughed again, a sound that grated on my nerves. "Did you kiss him properly?" he taunted, his words filled with contempt.

  "I did," I replied sharply. "The pain is gone," I added, feeling relief wash over me as Andrew visibly relaxed.

  He clenched his jaw, his expression tense. "Can you feel him as your mate?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.

  "Your mate isn't here! You have to get away from this!" Edith's voice screamed in my mind, her desperation palpable as if she could break free and attack the men herself.

  I looked at Andrew with feigned concern. "I don't know. Has the spell been broken now?" I asked, pretending uncertain about the situation.

  Suddenly, Robert lashed out, kicking the air and grabbing his son's necktie in a fit of rage. "Can you feel it!?" he bellowed at his son, who appeared to no longer be in pain.

  "I-I don't, Father. It's not working..." Andrew stammered weakly.
