CHAPTER 52: You Just Don't Get It!

  Berton's POV

She wanted me to find someone among these women but I couldn't and I wouldn't. It wouldn't be fair to them or to myself. As the evening wore on, I felt more and more out of place. The women were lovely and accomplished, each in their own right but none of them stirred any feelings within me. I kept my discomfort hidden, not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings, but it was becoming harder to stay engaged. I was losing it and I had no idea how long I was going to be able to hold it together.

Finally, the last woman was introduced. Her name was Laura, and she had a bright, infectious smile.

"It's an honor to meet you, Berton. " she said.

"I've heard a lot about your leadership and kindness. I'm happy I finally get to meet you in person." She said, stretching out her hand for a shake.
