Nina's POV
I was in my house when I received a message from May to meet her at a cafe just opposite my house. I walked into the cafe, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. May was already sitting at a corner table, her head down, staring at her phone with an intensity I hadn't seen from her in a long time. Even from across the room, I could sense her anxiety. The once cocky, untouchable May had been brought to her knees, and now she was grasping at whatever pieces of control she thought she had left.
I took a deep breath and approached her, my heels clicking against the floor with each step. As I sat down across from her, May finally looked up, her eyes bloodshot, dark circles marring her usually pristine appearance. There was no trace of the woman who once stood in my way, proud and vicious. She looked… defeated.
"You wanted to meet," I said calmly, folding my hands on the table. I didn't want this to drag out longer than it needed to.
