Elena's POV.
As the early morning sunbeam pierce through my window, I groggily opened my eyes, only to be met with a harsh glare. I let out a discontented groan and tossed aside the covers. Just then, my alarm clock sprang to life, jarringly loud. I reached over and slapped it silent, grumbling, "Can't you just shut up?"
I stretched my arms, arching my back, and sat up with a yawn, struggling to shake off the remnants of sleep.
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and glanced at the clock, only to be shocked by the time: 7:00 AM! I overslept. I jumped out of bed, but my haste was punished when I smashed my leg against the wooden frame.
"Ow!" I winced, clutching my throbbing toe. After a moment's pause, I stood up again, still a bit unsteady, and stumbled towards the bathroom. I was desperate to get ready quickly, knowing that Derek's class was awaiting me and I couldn't afford to be late.
