CHAPTER Twenty Nine Blamed

  Elena's POV.

"I don't know how I will survive," I whispered, feeling a sense of despair wash over me.

Mercy raised my head, her eyes locking onto mine. "So? What if you don't have your wolf power? What will happen? Will the world stop? Will today's date change? If you die today, apart from a 'may your soul rest in peace' or perhaps a one-minute silence in class, nothing more will happen. The world will keep moving."

Her words were gentle, yet piercing. "Why think about how you will survive?" she asked, her tone softening.

I sobbed, feeling the weight of my curse. "It's harder than you think, Mercy. I need my power."

Mercy smiled, her eyes filled with understanding. "When you didn't have your powers yet, did you survive or not?" she asked, her voice gentle.

I nodded, my eyes downcast. "I did."

"Then what makes you think you won't survive this one?" she asked, her words a gentle prod, encouraging me to find my inner strength.
