CHAPTER 72 Family Dinner

  The sudden vibration of Camila's phone against the mahogany coffee table stirred her from the novel nestled in her hands. She glanced at the screen- a text from her father, curt and cryptic: *Come home now. Urgent.*

  "Urgent?" she murmured to herself, a frown creasing her brow as she pushed off the plush sofa. With haste born of concern, she grabbed her keys and coat, her mind racing with possibilities.

  Upon reaching the family estate, the grandeur of the imposing mansion did little to ease the knots tightening in her stomach. The door swung open before her hand could even graze the bell, and she was met by her father's formidable frame filling the entryway.

  "Camila," he began, his voice a low growl of contained anger, "why have you put your sister in such a perilous position?"

  "Father?" Camila replied, taken aback. Her heart pounded in her chest, her poise momentarily faltering under his piercing gaze. "What are you talking about?"
