  Camila slammed the door behind her, the sound echoing off the high ceilings of her chic apartment as she tossed her keys onto the console table. She paced back and forth, the clacking of her heels a sharp staccato against the hardwood floor. With each step, her mind raced faster, thoughts tumbling like leaves in a storm.

  "Six years," she muttered to herself, running a hand through her dark waves. "Six years since Mom passed, and he's like a stranger to me." She stopped at the window, staring out over the cityscape that was losing its battle with the creeping twilight.

  "Everything changed," she continued, speaking to her own reflection. "You were never like this, Dad. What happened to you?" Her voice broke just a little, betraying the facade of calm she struggled to maintain.
