Bennett's POV
"What's going on?" Some members in the meeting room paused to ask as the voices of the guards in the hallway resounded through the hall.
"I don't know--" someone was about to respond when the door was suddenly pushed open and a guard marched in. He lowered his head as he announced the issue to the beta seated among us.
"Beta, the girl you kept in the dungeon has escaped, and lord Hudson is greatly hurt by her," he announced.
Everyone gasped, but I could barely comprehend what was happening between them and neither did I care about them. Whatever was going on was none of my business. I only came here for one sole reason and that I must accomplish before going back.
"Alpha, is the matter there grave? If it's not, then I would suggest the meeting be postponed so we could all return to our various places and the beta can fully tend to the commotion," I advised when I noticed the shift on the beta's face. I could clearly tell by his expression that he wanted to stand up and immediately follow that guard out to look for the girl the guard just mentioned.
"You're right about that, Alpha Bennett. We'll continue with the meeting," the Alpha agreed, and we continued with the meeting.
Stealing a few glances at the beta, I could see that he was struggling to keep a straight face as he impatiently waited for the meeting to end so he could go. Luckily, the meeting ended shortly after.
Walking out of the meeting room, I furrowed my brows as I noticed the whole Pack was chaotic as guards ran helter-skelter. However, I was the least bothered by what they were doing, and I instead made my way out of the Pack house and into the dense forest where my wolf suddenly felt troubled. I could feel it threatening to burst free from within me.
It felt like my insides were twisting. This was the first time something this odd had happened and I halted in my steps as the feeling heightened the more I tried to ignore it. There was definitely danger, that must be the reason it was this troubled. I concluded as I finally paid attention to the disturbing feeling.
"What is the problem?" I inquired.
"Mate… our mate is out here, and she's in danger. She's hurt," my wolf revealed.
Mate? I had a mate and she was out here? I looked around in both confusion. I thought I didn't have a mate and This sudden information made me pause to comprehend what was actually happening. My mate was here and she was hurt?
Where was she? I lifted my head, trying to catch a smell in the air. Anything that would trigger my wolf right now would work and just as I expected, among the smell of the bushes and the smell of earth, I caught a particular smell that I hadn't perceived before.
I followed the smell without delay as I walked through the dense forest. It was already getting dark as the sun dipped into the horizon, casting an orange light around the forest. I stopped abruptly when I sighted something on the ground… or was it a person? I squinted my gaze, but the dull light made it difficult to fathom who the person was.
As I moved closer, I realized that it was a beautiful girl. She was on my boundary. The smell was coming from her and as I walked towards her, the smell of blood was mixed with the heavenly scent. I crouched down, and I noticed that my wolf was clawing at my insides again. What happened to her? She looked beaten and battered. Who did this to her?
Her face was covered with traces of blood and her bare skin was scarred with wounds as she laid on the ground naked. She looked half dead and vulnerable. Something about her appearance made me gritted my teeth in fury. Taking off my coat, I draped it around her before lifting her in my arms without delay.
She needed to take care off as her heartbeat was gradually slowing down. Using the mind link, I quickly contacted my brother. "Hunter, I need you in my room now. I just found my mate," I said, linking him while walking faster to the Pack house. The guards around looked at her figure in my arms with concerned eyes and a few offered to help, but they thought she was just someone I had found in the woods, oblivious to the fact that she was my mate.
I couldn't blame them for that mindset as it was quite rare to find me holding another woman in my arms like this. Once I walked through the dim and quiet hallway, I finally got to my room and placed her gently on the bed.
Where was he? I mind linking him again when the door to the room was pushed open and Hunter entered the room.
"What's the problem, Bennett?" Hunter as he rushed into the room. "You said you've found your mate," he sounded confused but quickly walked towards the bed to start treating her, but he halted and his gaze on her intense.
What was wrong with him? Why wasn't he checking her health like he was supposed to?
"What? Is something wrong? Is her condition that bad?" I asked as I tried to fathom his shocked expression. "Is she dead?" My heart skipped a beat as the possibility ran through my mind.
No, I could still hear her heart beat which meant she was still alive, so why was he looking at her like that? I was slowly losing my patience, but he calmly turned to me.
"T-the girl. Your mate. She's also my mate," he revealed, leaving me stunned as I was taken aback by this revelation. My mate was also his mate? How was this even possible?
The door to the room was suddenly pushed open and Parker stepped into the room. "Brother, what's going on? I came immediately I heard your arrival," he explained while walking towards the bed but he halted few feet away as he stared down at her. His eyes widened as a look of shock was imprinted on his face.
"Mate?"
