The room hummed with the afterglow of their John and Emily shared intimacy and they lay side by side with their bodies intertwined under the soft embrace of the night. The warmth between them was a comfort but it couldn't mask the sudden change in the air as Emily shifted slightly with a distant gaze at John.
Emily suddenly turned to John, her voice soft yet determined.
"John, I've been thinking... Now that we're married, I want to travel abroad, to start what my father wanted… his legacy."
Emily began, her fingers tracing lazy circles on John's chest and her voice echoed slowly in her ear.
John's fingers stilled, his contentment cracking ever so slightly as concern crept into his expression. His eyes searched Emily's eyes for reassurance but he found only certainty.
"You mean... now?" he asked, trying to keep his tone light, though his heart had already begun to weigh down his chest.
Emily nodded slowly with her eyes holding John's eyes and locked on each other.
