CHAPTER 24: Unraveling Thoughts

  Christian’s POV

  I couldn’t help the smile tugging at my lips as I drove home. Tonight had been unexpected in so many ways, but it turned out better than I could’ve hoped. Hannah is divorced. The word echoed in my mind like music. She was finally free from that jerk. I had no idea why I felt so light, so damn happy, but I wasn’t going to question it. This was good news. Great news.

  But then my thoughts drifted back to her expression when she told me. That bitter smile, the sadness in her eyes, it gnawed at me. Something was wrong. Divorce was supposed to be a relief for her, yet she looked like she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. I clenched the steering wheel, feeling my mood dip. Michael had done something, something that hurt her more than just being a lousy husband. I could see it in the way she spoke, and the way she avoided eye contact when she mentioned it.
