CHAPTER 104 I'm broken already I don't need your help

  Genevieve's POV

My reaction didn't go unnoticed by Mom, as her smile dropped from her face.

"Are you okay now, Genevieve?" he asked curiously.

"Mhmm," I nodded, my hands placed firmly on my lap.

"So we can play or bake cookies when I come back like before?" he asked hopefully, eyes twinkling.

"No. Not yet." His face falls, and a deflated expression marries his face.

  "But why?"

"I don't feel like baking today."

"Okay... can we play with my toys?"

  "I can't. I'm too exhausted to play."

"But you said you're okay now?" He pouts sadly.

"Noah, stop it! I'm not in the mood to play or bake with you today. Now stop insisting and go to school!"

"Genevieve!" Mom gasps, moving closer to us.

Noah flinched away from me with a hurt and scared expression on his face as tears clouded his big brown eyes while Mom picked him up.

"Good heavens, Genevieve, that's no way to speak to a little child," Miss Carlotta said as Noah's cries filled the kitchen.
