CHAPTER 17 Under Attack

  Leila's POV

  Mr. Anderson struggled to control the car.

  "Hold on!" he cried, his tight voice steady as strong hands wrestled with the steering wheel.

  My heart was drumming in my chest as fear slid through me when the car slid side-to-side on the road.

  "Mr. Anderson!"

  "Stay down!" he ordered, his voice taut, wrestling the wheel to keep them clear of danger.

  I crouched low, sucking in quick frightened gasps. The car was swaying still, and that blown tire thumped against the concrete. For that second there, I thought we were going to crash, but Mr. Anderson magically managed to bring the car to a stop along the side of the road.

  Very slowly, I pulled myself up, and my hands were shaking. My heart was still racing. "What. what just happened?"

  Something changed in the gaze Mr. Anderson turned around us. He reached for something under his seat. "We're under attack. Stay here."

  "Under attack?" I repeated, my voice quivering. "Who would-"
