CHAPTER 78 Unwanted Attention

  Leila's POV

  "Leave me alone, Jason," I said, trying to sound firm, but even to my ears my voice seemed to shake with every word, as the beat of my heart thundered heavily within my ears with a set pace of movement backward, placing distance between us in safety.

  "Ah, come on, Leila." Jason sneered; the action ran a chilly wave down my spine as he leaned against the wall, blocking my way.

  "You don't have to be that cold. I just want to talk."

  "I have nothing to say to you," I replied as my hands gripped the strap of my bag so firmly my knuckles had turned white. "Leave me alone."

  Jason's eyes flashed dark, and he pushed off the wall, stepping closer. "You're acting like I'm some kind of monster. All I'm asking for is a little bit of your time."

  "And I'm telling you I'm not interested," I shot back, my voice shaking more now. I hated how weak I sounded, hated that I couldn't muster more strength. But the truth was, I was terrified of him."
