CHAPTER 8 I had to check on her

  Cavin's pov

"Relax, David," I said, keeping my voice steady. "She wasn't in my room. You must be mistaken."

David's eyes remained locked onto mine, suspicious, as if he didn't believe a word I was saying. "Mistaken?" he repeated, clearly not buying it. "I saw her. She went into your room. What the hell is going on, Cavin?"

I could feel the tension building again, but I couldn't let it show. David was the last person I wanted to get involved in this mess. "You're overreacting," I said, brushing past him. "She wasn't there, alright? Maybe you saw her near my room, but she didn't come inside. There's nothing to worry about."

David's frown deepened, but he didn't press further. He knew me well enough to recognize when I was done with a conversation. "I hope you know what you're doing," he muttered under his breath before turning and walking away.
