CHAPTER 50 His backup Plan

  Eliza's POV

The air in Cavin's room felt thick, charged with an intensity I hadn't expected. My heart was pounding so loud I swore he could hear it. Every inch of me was aware of his presence, of the energy simmering between us, and of the fact that the boundaries we'd both carefully maintained were barely hanging by a thread.

When he had kissed me with that unyielding dominance, something had cracked open in me—a mix of fear, thrill, and something else I didn't dare name. But I wasn't about to let him have the upper hand so easily. Not when he could take everything and leave me with nothing. I needed to make him want, to make him burn. And most importantly, I needed to know he was serious, not just playing around with me like a toy he could put down when he was done.

But I wasn't ready to be vulnerable. I didn't trust anyone that much—not even Cavin.
