CHAPTER 41 Echoes in the Dark

  Eliza's POV

The room felt like it was pulsing with energy even after Cavin left, his warmth lingering on my skin, his scent in the air. My heartbeat echoed in the silence, blending with the muffled voices drifting from downstairs. Every sound seemed amplified, clawing at my senses as I leaned against the locked door, still trying to steady my breath, my fingers brushing my lips where his kiss had lingered.

Cavin. His name resounded in my mind, wrapped in both longing and simmering frustration. Just moments ago, I'd been... I don't know, almost his. And now, it was like he'd vanished, swept away by whatever was happening outside. Anxiety twisted in my chest, overshadowed only by the memory of his whispered words and the way his gaze had pierced through my every wall.
