CHAPTER 59 Unraveling the Ties

  Cavin’s POV

I slipped through the window and darted down the hallway as the first light of dawn filtered through the high windows. After spending the night with Eliza, holding her, reassuring her, I felt both relieved and utterly exhausted. My body ached with fatigue, but the weight on my chest—Eliza’s pain, the uncertainty of our future—felt heavier.

She was the only cure I knew, the only person who grounded me. But as I finally reached my room and threw myself onto the bed, sleep seemed miles away. My mind was tangled with thoughts of her, of the trap her family had laid around her, one I felt powerless to break.

Just as I was beginning to drift off, my phone buzzed, pulling me back into consciousness. I groaned, reaching for it and blinking at the bright screen.

  Natalie.

My jaw clenched, and I let the phone vibrate in my hand before reluctantly answering it. Her voice came through the line, shaky and hoarse.
