CHAPTER 57 Locked away

  Cavin’s pov

  The car ride back to the mansion was silent, but the tension was thick. Eliza sat beside me, looking out the window, her face veiled by worry. I could see the tremble in her hands, even though she tried to hide it. I didn’t let go of her, though. I wouldn’t—not after everything that had happened.

  When we reached the mansion, the sky was drenched in the warm hues of sunset, the fading light casting long shadows across the entrance. It was barely past 7 p.m., but the air felt heavy, thick with anticipation. I had a sinking feeling in my chest that whatever awaited us inside wasn’t going to end well.

  As we stepped through the door, I felt her tense beside me. And then I saw why.
