CHAPTER 29

  Alice

I'm cooking food over the stove when the door to the apartment opens. A smile spreads over my face.

"You're right in time," I use some paper to dry my nose. I'm beginning to get a cold. "I'm making curry for us tonight."

  "Is that so?"

My head turns, and I stare in shock as Nathan looks back at me, not Rebel, but my boyfriend.

He stares back at me, his eyes taking me in as I stand on top of a stool to stir the curry better.

As silence falls, his lips part slightly, his eyes darkening with hurt. Honestly, everything about him seems darker. As if he is in a bad mood. It hits me when I realize it might be because of my message.

"I came to surprise you, but... Then you sent me that message asking me if I wanted to break up."

I only sent that in frustration. Nathan wasn't picking up his phone. I had no idea he was on a flight here.
